"Bringing life to an era of American history, please welcome the NW Civil War Council. As with any of the more recent wars, the Christmas seasons during the Civil War was overshadowed by melancholy despite the shift in culture towards Christmas trees, gift giving, and Santa Clause. In 1863, the Santa Claus we have come to recognize was first depicted by Thomas Nast, a famous cartoonist for Harpers Weekly. The NW Civil War Counsel is a nonprofit that is dedicated to keeping alive the history and lessons of the American Civil War. We do this by presenting demonstrations of battle field tactics, medical practices, fashion, and music of the time. Please step back in time with us by visiting one of our encampments and explore an essential time in our history. More information can be found here on our website."
